Centre declares Coimbatore as open defecation-free city

COIMBATORE: The Central government has declared the Coimbatore as an ‘Open Defecation free (ODF) city’ in Tamil Nadu.
The special team of Quality Council of India, a part of the Urban Development department conducted the field inspection in and around the Corporation limits on January 5 and 6.
The team members also inspected public and community toilets and interacted with the residents who are residing in nearby areas.
After the team submitted its report to the Urban Development department, the latter declared that Coimbatore is now an’ Open Defecation free (ODF) city’ in the state. Bhubaneswar Rawat, project Manager handed over the declaration certification to the corporation commissioner K. Vijay Karthikeyan here.
