Adani Gangavaram Port Workers Hold Stir
Visakhapatnam: Gangavaram local workers staged a protest at the Adani Gangavaram port gate on Saturday demanding a solution to their problems. The workers are demanding a minimum wage of Rs 24,000, free medical facilities and reinstatement for the evicted workers. A few months ago, the workers had organised a large-scale agitation in this regard.
The district administration had earlier promised to resolve the problems of the workers. The officials also held meetings with the port management in presence of the collector after which the workers had called off their agitation.
But even after four months, the port authorities could not keep up their promises, workers said. As a result, the local workers again started an agitation. Later, the protestors withdrew their agitation when Gajuwaka MLA Tippala Nagireddy assured them that their problems would be solved soon.
Earlier, the night employees of Gangavaram port were stopped at the entrance gate. When the displaced workers tried to enter the port, security personnel blocked the main road and the workers were not allowed to enter the port.
