HC issues notice over cancellation of tender for furniture

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Saturday sought the state government’s response to a petition challenging the proceedings for procurement of 59,000 sets of dining furniture to government schools under the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi programme. The court also issued notice to the Education and Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation, the commissionerate of tenders and jails department.

The petitioner, the proprietor of Chintamani Paraswanth Enterprises, said the deal value was ₹291 crore but the government had ignored the tender process and issued the purchase order to the jails department.

He said that a tender committee on February 14 had declared the firm-led joint venture consortium as L-1 and the petitioner firm had paid ₹2.95 crore as bank guarantee and ₹3 lakh as tender processing fee. The tender was cancelled on March 29, and given to the jails department on April 17.
