Namakkal Tiruvalluvar statue to go to Haridwar
Namakkal: A 12 feet stone sculpture of Tamil saint-poet, Tiruvalluvar, crafted in Namakkal, will adorn the banks of Ganga river in Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
A majestic statue of Tiruvalluvar dazzles in the waters of the Indian Ocean in Kanyakumari. Soon, Tiruvalluvar will make a spectacular presence on the banks of the holy Ganga in Haridwar.
The BJP MP, Tarun Vijay, who passionately promotes Tiruvalluvar’s couplets, ‘Tirukkural’, has decided to install the saint-poet’s statue at Haridwar on June 26. The stone sculpture has been chiseled and crafted by the sculptor L.M.P. Kumaresan at Koolipatti in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal district.
Kumaresan’s family has been in the business of sculpting for the last five generations. “ We have sculpted idols and statues for many temples across India,” he told DC.
Over the last month, sculptor Kumaresan and his team have been crafting the 12 feet massive statue, which cost about Rs 20 lakh. After a ‘pooja’ on Tuesday, the statue will be handed over to Tarun Vijay.
The statue will be taken to Chennai and then transported by train to Haridwar.
“Tamil poet’s statue will now dazzle on the banks of the Ganges. It is a proud moment for Tamil Nadu and for all the Tamil speaking people,” gleamed the sculptor.
