SP denies police role in death of Narayana
Nellore: Nellore police has rejected the allegations against the police, made on social media platforms and by political leaders, over the death of Udayagiri Narayana of Kandamuru village in Nellore rural mandal.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, DSP Vijaya Rao said the Podalakur police had no role in the “suicide” of Narayana.
He admitted that the police summoned Narayana for questioning based on a theft complaint filed by one Vamsi.
‘Podalakuru station constable Srinivasa Rao visited the house of Udayagiri Narayana and asked him to come to the police station. Narayana visited the police station and returned to his home on a motorbike,’ he claimed.
The SP said, “We are having CCTV footage by way of evidence about Narayana coming to the police station and returning from the station. Narayana was not tortured at the police station.”
He urged political leaders not to politicise the issue while underlining the need to support the family of Udayagiri Narayana at this time.
The SP said no permission was granted to the ‘Chalo Nellore’ programme. He released the “CCTV footage” to the media on the movements of Udayagiri Narayana.
