Water Tank Collapses at Warangal Railway Station: 3 Passengers Hurt
Warangal: Three passengers were injured when a water tank on the rooftop of the railway station suddenly collapsed, breaking the iron sheets of platform number 1 at the Warangal railway station in the early hours on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 1 am when there were a few passengers on platform number 1. The passengers were shocked by the incident that happened suddenly while they were waiting for a train.
With the heavy flow of water from the tank falling on the rooftop of the platform, three passengers sustained minor injuries.
The police and railway officials rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. All the three injured passengers were immediately shifted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) hospital for treatment.
The railway officials said they were unable to trace how the water tank with a capacity of 30 litres suddenly collapsed. There is another water tank beside it with the same capacity. The reason for the collapse is still not clear as neither heavy rains took place nor the tank had full water capacity.
Since there were only a few passengers when the incident took place no major accident happened. If the incident had occurred during the day-time it would have resulted in a major accident because of the huge rush of passengers, the officials said. There was a general store on the platform below the roof where the water tank fell.
The railways officials are investigating the collapse. Repair of the water tank and the rooftop of the platform have started.
