Tiger numbers increase, but many missing

ADILABAD: The movement of tigers is noticed in the forests on the outskirts of Kagaznagar town. There is every possibility of tigers entering the Kawal Tiger Reserve if the hurdles in their way from areas bordering Maharashtra are removed. Stating this, forest officials said on Tuesday that they were worried about poachers posing a threat to these tigers.

The staff however failed to track the movement of the four tigers that were moving in the Kagaznagar forest division some time ago and the missing tigers including A2 and A6. The officials are suspecting the presence of poachers in the village in Penchikalpet and Bejjur mandals. The forest staff could not notice the movement of the A2 for the last one and half years neither in Kagaznagar forest division nor in Maharashtra if it had migrated to its original habitat.

The forest staff hinted that some tigers were missing in the Kagaznagar division. The A2 tiger killed two persons in Digida village in Dahegaon mandal and Kondapalli village in Penchikalpet mandal two years ago. It is believed that more than 10 tigers are moving around the Kagaznagar forest division, other than the missing tigers. Forest staff and animal trackers say they have noticed tiger movement at Bheemanna near Vempalli in Kagaznagar forest range and in a village in the Ankusapur forests in Kagaznagar mandal.

Some time ago, they found two cubs with their mother at Ankusapur village in Kagaznagar rural mandal and two tiger cubs that had been separated from their mother and moved separately in the Kagaznagar division. A team of animal trackers and forest staff was deployed in the Ankusapur forest area to keep a close watch on the tiger movement in the Kagaznagar forest range.
