Hyderabad's massage spas get conditional nod
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the city police to streamline the business activities of wellness, spa and massage care centres, instead of forcing them to shut down business. The court said the centres should be allowed to carry on their businesses, while following all mandated precautions and avoiding immoral activities under the guise of providing whole body massage.
The court was dealing with a petition filed by Somara Wellness and Spa center and others, complaining that the police were frequently interfering in their day-to-day affairs and forcing closure without following any procedure of law.
It directed the police to ensure that the centres abide by the conditions laid down by the High Court while dealing with a similar petition earlier.
The centres have to maintain records of customers, their names and verifiable addresses together with phone numbers, so as to enable the police to contact them in times of complaints of rule violations.
The court said that SIs and higher ranked officers should periodically verify records maintained by the centres. It is open to them to take appropriate action if they come across any violations. Police are also entitled to investigate crimes, if reported against the massage centers.
