The Cultural procession will have all the features of the grand finale, except the tableaux and elephant Arjuna carrying the golden howdah.

Mysuru: The cultural capital of the state, which is all lit up to host events at over 36 venues as part of its annual Dasara extravaganza, is set to witness a trial run of the Vijayadashami procession, that brings down the curtains on it, here on Sunday.

The “Cultural procession,” which is being held for the first time, will have all the features of the grand finale, except the tableaux and elephant Arjuna carrying the golden howdah.

But he will walk the route of the procession along with the 10 other Dasara elephants in the company of 400 artistes from 40 folk cultural troupes from Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajnagar, who will perform alongside.

Also joining them will be 1,500 students in traditional attire, who will walk along the 4.8km route from Mysuru Palace premises to the Bannimantap grounds in this mini procession.

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr G Parameshwar will perform a pooja to the Nandi dwaja to inaugurate Sunday’s procession at the north gate of the Mysuru Palace.
While the Chief Minister offers a floral benediction to Goddess Chamundeswari housed in the golden howdah carried by Arjuna during the Vijayadashami procession, on Sunday, Dr Parameshwar will offer a floral benediction to a photo of the goddess on a dais before the Mysuru Palace, and to the elephants as well, according to Mr Chennappa, assistant director, department of Kannada and Culture.

“This procession is being held to give an opportunity to the cultural troupes , which will not be able to perform during the Vijayadashami procession, to show off their talent, ” explained district minister, G T Devegowda.
