Karnataka Agriculture Minister Chelavarayaswamy visits Dakshina Kannada and Udupi
Udupi: State Agriculture Minister Cheluvaraya Swamy said the state government is providing full support and all necessary assistance to the farmers of the state to make agricultural activities profitable.
Addressing the Krishi Ahara Sasya Mela at Cherkadi in Brahmavar on Saturday, Minister Swamy highlighted the profitability of agriculture when approached with keen interest, diligence, and unwavering honesty.
He cited numerous success stories across the state as testaments to this potential, underlining that beyond its profitability, agriculture stands as a steadfast source of employment for several individuals, enabling them to lead self-respecting and self-reliant lives.
The Minister highlighted the proactive measures taken during the kharif season, ensuring equitable distribution of seeds and fertilizers to thwart any scarcity or circulation of substandard agricultural inputs.
"Substantial funds have been allocated for the establishment of Krishi Yantra Dhare centers. Additionally, a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per hectare is granted to millet cultivators," he announced. The Minister also outlined the concerted efforts of agricultural and horticultural universities to educate farmers about soil quality, climate-specific crop choices, and water-efficient, high-yield farming methods.
"By nurturing agriculture, we pave the way for the economic prosperity of our state and citizens. Hence, we are placing paramount importance on agricultural advancement across the entire state," he affirmed.
In response to queries regarding the demand for an agriculture college in Udupi district, the Minister highlighted the district's robust infrastructure, including a research center, ample land, and suitable buildings, making it an ideal candidate for such an institution.
"The proposal for Agriculture Colleges spans 15 districts in the state. Udupi has well-equipped facilities. I will engage with both the agriculture university and the government to deliberate on this matter," he assured.
Turning his attention to the issue of power cuts, Minister Swamy acknowledged the challenges arising from reduced power production in the state.
"In the face of drought conditions on one side and power shortages on the other, our farmers are bearing the brunt. We are actively working to rectify the issue of load shedding. Even if procuring electricity entails higher costs, it remains imperative," Cheluvarayaswamy concluded, expressing determination to resolve the situation promptly.
