TNCC Leaders meet Sonia Gandhi

Chennai: A huge contingent of top leaders of the TNCC called on former Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the hotel he was staying in Chennai and had a meeting, in which she reportedly told them to work towards winning the elections by coordinating with the alliance partners and abiding by the State leadership.

Several leaders wanted a change in the TNCC leadership as the present incumbent K S Alagiri had been in the position for a long time. Some leaders advocated the nomination of a Scheduled Caste leader for the TNCC chief’s post, while MLA Vijayadharani was for giving the post to a woman.

Karthi Chidambaram said that a youth leader should be entrusted with the responsibility to build the party in the State, while many leaders said that no two members of the same family should be given tickets to contest the elections.

Sonia Gandhi gave a patient hearing to the leaders and assured them to look into their demands. She urged the leaders to strive for the party’s victory in the elections.
