Tragic Suicide of Aspiring Government Job Candidate Sparks Protests in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: A young woman in her mid 20s, identified as Pravallika from Warangal, died by suicide in a private hostel at Ashoknagar, Chikkadpally police said on Friday. She was preparing for government job entrances.
It was alleged that she took the extreme step as she upset after a series of recruitment tests were cancelled. The news of her suicide spread rapidly in Ashoknagar, where many educational institutions that train candidates for entrance tests are located as well as hostels to accommodate students.
Job aspirants in large numbers gathered at the hostel and sat on a protest on the road and stopped the police from entering the premises.
According to police, Pravallika was found dead in her room on Friday night. While her friends alleged that she was upset over the trend of exams being cancelled, police said they were ascertaining the reason behind her suicide.
Raising slogans demanding justice for Pravallika, and the thousands of aspirants preparing for recruitment tests, they demanded an assurance from the government before allowing shifting of the victim’s body for post-mortem examination. The stand-off was continuing till last reports tame in.
Chikkadpally police have informed Pravallika’s parents and started a probe into the suicide.
