Vijayawada: Three youths drowned in the Munneru rivulet at Keesara at Kanchikacherla mandal in NTR district on Monday afternoon.
According to Kanchikacherla police, 10 youngsters hailing from Ithavaram village in Nandigama mandal had gone to the rivulet as it was a holiday. Some of them entered the rivulet, while a few were watching from the shore.
However, three of them, who did not know how to swim, drowned as they entered deep into the water. One youth was rescued when people jumped into the rivulet to rescue them. The rescued youth was brought to the shore. The youth who raised the alarm developed convulsions subsequently.
The police rushed to the spot after getting information and shifted the rescued youth and the one who suffered a convulsion to the government hospital at Nandigama for medical treatment.
Later, they fished out the three bodies from the rivulet. The deceased were identified as Yadavalli Ganesh, 23; Gail Santosh Kumar, 21; and Danelli Dinesh, 22. Their bodies were shifted to the government hospital at Nandigama for a postmortem.
The police booked a case and started an investigation.
