HC directs TS to come up with fresh proposal on OGH Buildings
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to come with a comprehensive proposal on February 7 after conducting wideranging consultations on the restructuring and construction of new buildings to house the Osmania General Hospital in Afzalgung.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy was dealing with a batch of petitions relating to construction of new buildings and restoreation of the old buildings at the OGH campus.
Senior counsel Nalini Kumar representing Deccan Archaeological and Cultural Research Institute said that the then AP government had issued GO 313 on November 8, 2010, to construct new buildings to replace those in a dilapidated state, and for maintenance of the stormwater drainage and sewerage system.
He said the in-patient block of OGH was located in a listed heritage building and the structure could not be demolished for reconstruction. It can be used for the out-patient section, as per the GO. Counsel said the GO should be continued.
K. Ravindra Reddy, counsel for one of the petitioners, said the government had decided in 2015 to construct the new buildings but this had not been done due to the pending cases. He requested the court to allow the government to go ahead.
Advocate-General B.S. Prasad said that the High Court-appointed committee had concluded that the buildings were not viable to house the hospital in the long-term. The government had therefore taken a decision to construct the new buildings, he said.
