Visakhapatnam: Renowned nephrologist Dr. Ravi Raju Tatapudi stated that chronic kidney diseases are high in the north coastal area due to local conditions, particularly in Uddanam mandal of Srikakulam district.

He disclosed that his research revealed that 25–30 per cent of blood samples in Uddanam mandal had high levels of creatinine, indicative of CKD (chronic kidney disease).

AP government has invited Dr. Ravi Raju for the inauguration of a kidney hospital in Uddanam by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday. Given this background, he released the findings of his research on kidney diseases to the media in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

In a statement, the renowned nephrologist said CKD is a progressive condition affecting 10 percent of the world's population. It has emerged as one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the 21st Century.

“CKD is a newly emerging disease of unknown aetiology. It has taken thousands of lives in many tropical agricultural communities worldwide over the past three decades,” Dr. Ravi Raju added.
