TD Wants Out-of-AP Officials to Prepare State Electoral Rolls

Vijayawada: A delegation of opposition Telugu Desam MPs on Thursday called on chief election commissioner (CEC) Ravi Kumar in New Delhi seeking deputation of All-India Service officers from outside Andhra Pradesh for preparation of electoral rolls in the state for the forthcoming AP assembly general elections.

TD MPs Galla Jayadev, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Kesineni Srinivas reached the office of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and submitted a letter to the CEC.

In the letter, they alleged that district election officers (DEOs) and electoral registration officers (EROs) are not following the ECI guidelines while preparing the electoral rolls. The officials are manipulating the electoral rolls, succumbing to pressure exerted on them by ruling YSRC cabinet ministers and MLAs.

TD MPs pointed out that politically vulnerable and inexperienced sachivalayam staff have been appointed as block-level officers (BLOs). Through them, ruling party leaders are playing havoc with the process of revising the voters’ list.

They said though the ECI through its letter on May 29 this year instructed that all advanced applications received by October 1 must be processed and corresponding entries amalgamated in the draft rolls, over 23 lakh applications are yet to be processed by the election machinery.

The MPs sought immediate intervention of ECI in protecting the democratic rights of the citizens in Andhra Pradesh.

They underlined that at least 6,000 false cases have been foisted against senior TDP leaders in the past 57 months, which reflect the ongoing tyrannical rule in the state.
