Wild elephants kill one more in Manyam
Vishakapatnam: Wild elephants killed one more person, a 75-year-old farmer in Chellimpeta village under Bailijipeta mandal in Parvatipuram Manyam district in the early hours of Tuesday. The victim was identified as Asapa Desinaidu. On information from the villagers, the forest officials visited the spot and shifted the body to Parvatipuram government hospital.
This is the third incident during the last four months. One villager was killed on November 12, an elephant tracker on February 6 this year and the latest on Tuesday.
According to reports, a herd of seven elephants has been roaming in Parvathipuram agency for the past few years creating havoc in Komarada, Garugubilli and Balijipeta mandals by destroying standing crops as well as attacking on the human habitations.
Regarding the latest incident, the forest officials said the herd entered Chellimpeta village in Balijipeta mandal in search of food from Komarada on Monday night. Later the herd attacked Adapa Desinaidu and trampled him to death while he went for nature’s call into the agriculture fields on Tuesday early hours.
Forest officials have sounded high alert in Chellimpeta and neighbouring villages on the elephants’ movement.
