CP warns transgenders against demanding money
WARANGAL: Police commissioner L. Subbarayudu on Tuesday warned transgenders in Karimnagar district against harassing people for money, saying action could be taken against them as per law if they do not mend their ways.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the commissioner said several complaints have been received from people that many transgenders harass them and even enter their houses demanding money. They also barge in at functions, marriages, funerals or inaugurations.
“Such forcible collection of money from people and their harassment using foul language is punishable. Severe action will be taken against them as per law if police receive complaints against them,” Subbarayudu warned.
He asked transgenders to mend their ways and make a living by taking up other professions or by utilising self-employment schemes. He further informed people that they can dial 100 if anyone harasses them or demands mamools during functions and death ceremonies.
