Unexpected rains inundate Nacharam's Ambedkarnagar
HYDERABAD: In a strange irony even as the city was celebrating the 132 birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, residents in around 125 houses at Nacharam’s Ambedkarnagar were subject to a harrowing time on Friday when water gushed into their houses from a nearby nala that was overflowing because of the unexpected rains. The entire colony was marooned.
“Around 9 am on Friday the water level in the nala kept increasing because of the sudden unseasonal downpour. Many of us had gone to attend Baba sahib’s birth anniversary programme. Within no time the whole place was flooded and water entered our houses,” said Mohammed Jawed, who resides in the colony.
The local corporator and HMC officials reached the spot while personnel from the disaster response force rescued the stranded families. They all were provided temporary accommodation in the community hall. They returned home later in the evening when normalcy was restored.
Anjaneyulu, another resident, said, “work on the nala has been going on for almost seven months now. Water from Moula Ali and Safilguda also flows into Patel cheruvu where we reside. We have been facing these situations for so many years. Officials are not bothered about our living conditions.”
Incidentally, Patel cheruv is surrounded by Ambedker nagar, Errakunta and Erukal Basti, colonies which are in the news every monsoon.
