Strict vigil has Maoists at bay

During the last few months, there have been no incidents of Maoist presence reported in the region.

WAYANAD: The Wayanad district administration and the police are a relieved lot because of the absence of Maoist threats for the election process. During the last few months, there have been no incidents of Maoist presence reported in the region.

Mr Dinendra Kashyap, IG north zone, told DC that the police were taking security measures in the interior hamlets of Wayanad district and the jungle regions of other districts. “Apart from some movements in Malappuram district, there have been no reports of Maoist presence in the region," he said .

However, there would be regular deployment of security forces in Wayanad and special attention would be given to 25 booths in jungle zones identified as vulnerable.

Wayanad district collector Kesavendra Kumar told DC that five companies of security forces from outside the state, including three company of CRPF, would monitor the law and order situation in the district. “For quite some time we have not heard anything about Maoists,” he added. “This time we will have the most peaceful election,” he said.
