Tamil Nadu: Man trampled to death by wild elephant
KRISHNAGIRI: A farmer who went out of his house to answer nature's call was tragically trampled to death by a wild jumbo in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police said, 55-year-old M.Venkateshappa of Belakarai village, near Thally in Denkanikottai taluk of Krishnagiri district was found dead inside the reserved forest.
The shocking incident came to light when his relatives went in search of him after the farmer failed to return home after answering nature's call.
Venkateshappa is yet another victim of man-animal conflict in Krishnagiri district. The farmer's body was recovered and handed over to his relatives after completing the autopsy in Denkannikottai government hospital.
This is the second such incident in which the local villager died in the man-animal conflict since January this year.
On 22 February, the first case was reported from Marandahalli reserved forest. In that episode, 75-year-old Krishna of Aalamarapatti village died in the elephant attack. He was killed when he tried to save his relative from being attacked by the jumbo that entered his coconut farm that day.
According to forest department sources, 25 people have died in elephant attacks in Krishnagiri since 2012.
