Seven institutes bag awards at Isro’s Smart India Hackathon – 2022
NELLORE: Seven Indian institutes, both government and private, have emerged among winners in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) – 2022 organised by Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), Department of Space (DOS), to generate novel ideas within the country’s young and ignited minds for resolving specific issues in innovative ways.
The top three teams are Amity University, Uttar Pradesh; IIT, Mandi; and BIT, Ranchi. Cheer Up awards have been bagged by IIT, Kharagpur; SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai; and Chandigarh University. Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, bagged the special Nari-Shakti prize.
According to a press release issued by Isro on Thursday, the competition covered categories like Block Chain Management, Disaster Management, Satellite Communications, Remote Sensing, and Satellite Navigation Applications. 36 teams of total 224 young students had been short-listed to provide solutions of which 32 teams participated in the Grand Finale at Ahmedabad.
Each team worked non-stop for 36 hours to build innovative digital solutions for the sample problems posed by Isro / DOS.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed all the participants from across India. The PM also interacted via Live Video Conference with some of the participants from different centres.
Nilesh Desai, Director, Space Application Centre (SAC); Sudheer Kumar, Director, Capacity Building Programme Office, Isro headquarters; Dr. Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University; and G.T. Pandya, Director, Technical Education; were among those who participated in the inaugural function of SIH – 2022 held on the morning of August 25, 2022. The valedictory function had been held on August 26, 2022 during which prizes and trophies had been distributed.
Representatives of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) also interacted with the participants during the competition.
Isro / DOS had been the Premier Partner in this initiative of AICTE under the aegis of Ministry of Education. The event had been co-sponsored by INSPACe, a new centre under Department of Space to promote and authorise space activities in India.
