Vijayawada: Governor S. Abdul Nazeer bestowed the Gadicherla Award 2023 upon Mandali Buddha Prasad, the former chairman of the AP Official Language Commission on Thursday. The ceremony took place at Krishna University in Machilipatnam, commemorating the 140th birth anniversary of Gadicherala Harisarvottama Rao.
During the event, the Governor lauded Harisarvottama Rao's significant role in the freedom movement in Andhra Pradesh. He described Rao as a devoted nationalist, a distinguished freedom fighter, a versatile intellect, a legislator and a progressive social reformer who had embraced the freedom struggle from a tender age.
The Governor emphasised Rao's moniker as the 'Father of Library Movement', highlighting how he dedicated the latter part of his life to promoting reading habits among the youth. This, he believed, would equip them with knowledge and enlightenment.
