Jagan wants AP student's death in US probed
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday asked external affairs minister S. Jaishankar to seek an independent and a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of AP student Kandula Jaahnavi in the US in a road accident.
In a letter addressed to Jaishankar, the CM asked the external affairs minister to personally take up the issue with his counterpart in the US as well as the US ambassador in India.
Jagan Mohan Reddy pointed out that Jaahnavi had been pursuing her Master’s in Information Systems from the Seattle campus of Northeastern University. She had been hit by a speeding police vehicle while crossing the road on January 23, 2023. Later, she succumbed to her fatal injuries caused during the accident.
Referring to the video of the US police officer investigating the case ridiculing her death, the Chief Minister said such inhuman behaviour against non-Americans should be condemned.
The CM felt that strict action should be recommended against the erring police officer to instill confidence among Indians living in the US.
