Kerala to get 10000 NCC cadets more: Lt-General Vinod Vasisht
KOTTAYAM: The numerical strength of the National Service Scheme (NCC) cadets will be expanded in the state. By 2019, the state will get an additional 10,000 cadets raising the strength from the current 86,000 to 96,000, Director-General of NCC, Lieutenant- General, Vinod Vasisht said. He told DC at the MT seminary higher secondary school here on Saturday that at the national level, the cadets' strength would be increased to 15 lakh from the current 14.2 lakh.
Terming the NCC as the most vibrant and resourceful organisation in the country, he welcomed the initiatives such as Student Police Cadets ( SPC) by the state. "However, other organisations do not have the resources or the infrastructure similar to that of the NCC," he said. Mr Vinod maintained that the NCC will establish its training camps in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. Currently the NCC is conducting training camps at the schools concerned and other institutions in the state.
Mr Vinod, who is based in New Delhi, addressed a gathering of at least 547 students at the MT Seminary school earlier. Major-General V. Anoop Kumar, Additional Director-General of NCC Kerala region; Brig P.G. Jagadeesh, Deputy Director-General; and Brig T.K. Sunil Kumar, Group Commander of Kottayam, were present on the occasion.
