KMC Cracks Whip Against Water Bill, Tax Defaulters
Kakinada: The Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) cracked the whip against those who have not paid their water bill and property tax.
Arrears of water bills have mounted to Rs 4.30 crore, while house owners have not paid their property taxes totalling to Rs 20 crore.
KMC commissioner CH. Naga Narasimha Rao said notices have already been issued to those who have not paid their water bills. 20 water connections have been disconnected. Officials are preparing to take more stringent measures, he stated.
Narasimha Rao asked ward secretaries and revenue personnel to collect property tax dues, which have mounted to nearly Rs 20 crore.
He pointed out that user charges for sanitation too need to be collected. Every month, KMC spends ₹56 lakh on vehicles belonging to sanitation department. If user charges are not collected, the amount will have to be paid from general funds. This will not leave funds for development works.
The commissioner called on people to pay their user charges every month without fail.
He reminded people about attending the Dial Your Commissioner “Jaganannaku Chebudam” programme on Monday in from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. He asked people to dial 0884-2357800 for participating in the programme. The Spandana programme will start at 10:30 a.m., he stated.
In the interim, KMC has said Anchorage Port officials have paid Rs 1.88 crore towards water charges to the corporation on Saturday.
