Customers line up doctors' support for mobile towers in Kalamassery
KOCHI: When protests against mobile phone towers are being widely reported from various places in the district, the residents of Kalamassery are seeking the support of medical experts to prove that mobile towers are safe. For the residents of Pallilamkara, though in the heart of the city, frequent call drop and other issues in mobile phone connectivity have been a major problem due to which a few offices and companies had to shift from the area.
Now, a group of residents have joined together to eradicate the misconceptions on the health hazards of radiation from mobile phone signal towers. They are planning to prepare a video with comments of noted oncologists like Dr. V.P. Gangadharan to create awareness among the people that mobile towers are not harmful to human health.
“Despite being in the centre of the fast growing Kochi city, no mobile phone service provider has proper connectivity in Pallilamkara as people are not permitting them to erect signal towers. Due to call drop and low data connectivity, some of the offices and companies had to relocate. Hence, we’ve decided to take up the issue and create awareness among residents. Dr. Venugopal, paediatrician has agreed to talk on the topic.” said Yasir Arafath, state president of Telecom Associates Link in Kerala, who is in the forefront of the initiative.
Those who support the movement said that expert opinion of a renowned oncologist like Dr. V.P. Gangadharan will have a better impact.
