Call to sanction free power connections to farm sector by June 15
Vijayawada: Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has directed the officials to clear all applications for free agriculture power connections in AP and sanction power connection to all eligible applicants by June 15.
The minister held a review meeting with power sector officials on Monday. He told them the state government was committed to implement its commitment to farmers to provide nine hours of free power supply to the farms section during day-time. By the end of March, the government had provided nearly 1.20 lakh power connections to the farm sector in the state, he said.
Underlining the importance of bringing down power transmission losses, he asked the power officials to take up a drive to get power dues from industrial units. He asked officials to pay proper attention to resolving court litigations on power dues and called for supply of quality power to the state’s consumers.
Given the steep rise in power demand in the summer, the minister said the state was taking up power production based on actual need. This would be done in a planned manner so as to avoid power cuts.
He promised supply of power as per demand to consumers across the state.
