Vigilance director Loknath Behera tightens vigil over officials
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance director Loknath Behera has directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officials to conduct proper inquiries into genuine complaints against VACB officials to uphold the credibility of the anti-corruption machinery. In a directive to Vigilance officials in this regard, Mr. Behera said that even anonymous and pseudonymous petitions should be looked into. “A number of petitions are received against the officers of VACB. Some of them are anonymous or pseudonymous. Inquiry into real petitions containing allegations against VACB officers is important from the point of view of
good governance,” said the directive.
Vigilance sources said that normally anonymous petitions raising allegations against vigilance officials received at vigilance units did not get much attention. The fresh instruction also assumes significance as some officials who faced disciplinary actions were recently posted at the VACB.
According to the directive, SPs heading various vigilance units should probe into the complaints against officers of the respective units received by them. In case the allegations are found to be true, action should be recommended to the VACB headquarters. In case of allegations against officers in the rank of DySP and above, the matter should be brought to the notice of ADGP – I at VACB headquarters. SP (intelligence) at Vigilance headquarters should conduct discrete inquiries against the officers, Mr. Behera directed.
