Hyderabad: The Santoshnagar police drafted 16 history-sheeters to join them in the Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday. This was an attempt to ensure that they do not indulge in illegal activities and give them an opportunity to integrate with society.
The group expressed happiness after taking part in the event. “Whenever the police summoned us in the past, it was for counselling or questioning in connection with some cases. This is the first time we were invited for such an event,” one of them said.
A history-sheeter, Raghu, said that they were overwhelmed at being made a part of this event. Stating that they had taken to crime for various reasons, he said, "We do not want the youth to spoil their lives like us. We also want our families to come out of the stigma caused by our criminal record.”
Santoshnagar station house officer P. Shiva Chandra said, "We hope they leave their past life and make a dignified living as law abiding citizens.”
