DGCA renews aerodrome license of Mangaluru International Airport for 5 years

Mangaluru: The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the aerodrome license for Mangaluru International Airport.

The renewed license effective from September 16, 2023, will be valid for a period of 5-years, that is up to September 15, 2028. The validity of the current aerodrome license issued on March 16, 2022, ended on September 15, 2023. The airport received the renewed license on September 12.

The DGCA had initially granted an aerodrome license to Mangaluru International Airport Ltd, which operates Mangaluru International Airport on September 16, 2021, for a six-month period up to March 15, 2022.

The civil aviation regulator subsequently extended the same for a further 18 months from March 16, 2022, up to September 15, 2023. “The latest renewal has seen DGCA do so for a five-year period,” the airport spokesperson said.

Issued under Rule 78 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, the aerodrome license is a pivotal document for the airport's operator. It attests that the aerodrome adheres to exacting standards encompassing management protocols, operational procedures, physical attributes, obstacle assessment and mitigation, visual aids, as well as rescue and firefighting measures, in accordance with the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) section stipulations of the civil aviation regulator.

"The aerodrome license grants the airport operator full authority over airport management as per the concession agreement," the airport spokesperson added.
