Police Begin Sensitising Hostel Managements and Inmates
Hyderabad: Following the suicide of Marri Pravalika in a private hostel at Ashoknagar, managements of hostels have started incorporating preventive measures to stop recurrence of such incidents. Police are also sensitising managements and hostellers in the area.
The owner of a hostel at RTC crossroads said that they can accommodate more than 50 girls. “Since we stay in the same building, we regularly interact with the hostellers. Even otherwise they have very little time in the hostel because of their packed training schedule,” he said.
Another owner said that such incidents are rare in hostels. But after the Pravalika incident, they have urged the students to reach out when in need. “After the vacation, we will come up with some plans,” he said.
Police officials said that they have been visiting hostels and spreading awareness on sensitive issues like drug abuse, cybercrimes and women safety.
