Kadapa witnesses drop in fresh Corona cases

The district witnessed over 1,000 cases each day in September

KADAPA: In what is welcome news, Coronavirus positive cases in Kadapa district have been decreasing since the past four days, with just about a hundred or lesser instances being reported.

The district witnessed over 1,000 cases each day in September. They started declining steadily since the second week of October. By the end of October, only 200 cases were being reported. The number of new cases has been just about 100 in the first week of November. While 71 new cases were registered on Saturday, only 47 cases have been reported on Sunday.

More than 1,500 tests are being carried out daily in the district. The number of throat swabs has been 1,942 Sunday.

District administration, led by collector Chevuri Harikiran, is strict about use of masks, sanitisers and physical distancing. Designation of red, orange, and green zones has made treatment of Covid-19 more focused in the district. Specialised Corona treatment centres had been set up at Kadapa, Proddatur, Pulivendula and Rayachoti. More than five thousand beds have been arranged in the respective hospitals. Supervised treatment is also being ensured for patients in home isolation.

With decrease in quantum of Coronavirus cases, treatment centres at Rayachoti and Proddatur have been closed for the time being. Treatment though is continuing in Kadapa and Pulivendula. Currently, there are 480 oxygen and 2,620 non-oxygen beds available in the district.

Health authorities in the district have warned people that though there has been a decline in Covid-19 instances in the district, they should not be negligent about wearing masks, using sanitizers, and maintaining physical distance. Doctors maintain that although cases are declining, severity of the disease has increased as people are not adhering to preventive measures. Most cases now being reported are those involving people over the age of 60 years and those with chronic health problems. Doctors insist that everyone must wear masks until the vaccine is available.

General physician Mundla Sureshwar Reddy of District General Hospital underlined that wearing masks and adherence to physical distancing is mandatory. There are also reports of a second wave developing within India. Dr. Sureshwar Reddy warned that the second wave could be deadlier. Hence, patients must consult a doctor mandatorily if there is any health problem. They must not be negligent in any way.
