Sky-high fuel prices: Physically disabled seek electric tricycles
Karwar: The sky-rocketing fuel prices have put the physically disabled people, who were given tricycles by the government, in a fix. Concerned by the soaring fuel prices, the Karwar based Janashakthi Vedike has requested the government to provide electric tricycles to the differently-abled, instead of the petrol vehicles.
“Government provides petrol run tricycles to the disabled. It was of great help for them. But the steep increase in fuel price has made the people abandon these vehicles as they find it difficult to afford the fuel cost,” Janashakthi Vedike president and social activist Madhav Nayak said.
“Instead of petrol run tricycles, let the state government provide electric tricycle to the disabled. They are economic as well as eco-friendly. The Uttara Kannada district should take the initiative by providing electric tricycles to the disabled,” he said.
Nayak submitted a memorandum to the government through the Deputy Commissioner.
He also urged the government to pay the insurance of these vehicles.
“There are thousands of disabled who are dependent on these vehicles. It will be of great help for them if the government provides them electric-run vehicles,” Nayak added.
