Footpath From JNTU Quarters to JNTU Gate Occupied by Vendors, Pedestrians in Lurch
Hyderabad: A footpath from the JNTU quarters to the JNTU gate is encroached upon by vendors, leaving no space for pedestrians and making the walk a challenge on this stretch.
A resident took to X to highlight the issue, posting: “Walking through the shops, especially in the pitch dark, is quite risky. On the opposite side of ICICI Bank, there's a non-functional toilet, blocking the footpath entirely. Pedestrians have no choice but to turn back, as there's no space to walk on the road.”
Another resident, Srinivas Bellam, told Deccan Chronicle: “The situation is exacerbated by obstacles like dustbins, debris and mud deposits, further hindering the movement of people. It's disheartening to see the footpath meant for pedestrians occupied by vendors and blocked completely.”
Sai Verma, a local, said: “Authorities should take prompt measures to ensure the safety and convenience of those walking in this area. This is a serious safety concern for anyone trying to navigate through this area. There is a need for immediate intervention.”
“The issue is not new; we have been seeing this for a long time now. Additionally, the main road lights are not functioning correctly. There are two public toilets, with one in use and the other non-functional, rendering it useless. Moreover, both sides of the road are cluttered with debris,” said Seshu Nayak, another local.
Multiple attempts by Deccan Chronicle to reach the GHMC officials concerned went unanswered.
