Preparations underway for Chhath Puja in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Preparations are underway at popular ghats in the Hussainsagar and the lakes at Jeedimetla, Alwal, Patancheru, Miyapur and Medchal for the Chhath Puja, a festival of thanksgiving to the Sun God, which will be celebrated on Sunday and Monday.
The festival is widely celebrated in the Hindi belt states, especially Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Organiser for the festivities Bihar Samaj Seva Sangh said the first spell of prayers or ‘argh’ is from 3 pm to 10 pm on Sunday and the second ‘argh’ from 4 am to 8 am on Monday.
Besides prayers, artisans from the three states are also set to undertake performance arts at the locations.
Raju Ojha, the national chairperson of the Bihar Samaj Seva Sangh, said that the festival is celebrated on the sixth day after Diwali on the banks of a water body to pay obeisance to the Sun God for sustaining life.
Ojha said: “Since Hyderabad is our home for the past several years, the festival is celebrated in a grand manner. There will be a huge rush on that day. The decorations will reflect our indigenous atmosphere.”
