Tata initiates awareness campaign on breast cancer
TIRUPATI: Tata Trusts unveiled the “Gaanth Pe Dhyaan” initiative at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care and Advanced Research (SVICCAR) in Tirupati on Friday.
This initiative encourages women to prioritise their health through regular self-examinations.
Dr. Prasanth Penumadu, head of surgical oncology at SVICCAR, said breast cancer significantly contributes to India's overall cancer burden. Fortunately, it is a cancer that can be easily detected. Despite this, a substantial number of cases are identified only in later stages, he regretted.
“Self-examination can aid early detection of breast cancer and save lives,” he added.
Over 400 women registered for breast cancer screening at SVICCAR on the occasion.
SVICCAR has been set up by Tata Cancer Care Foundation in partnership with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and the AP government.
