Thyagaraja Utsavalu in Vemulawada from today

Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple of Vemulawada is celebrating the 64th Thyagaraja Aradhana Utsavalu from January 17.

Rajanna-Sircilla: An ardent devotee and classical musical lover Chavutu Sambaiah Shastri of Vemulawada has continued the musical legacy of saint composer Sri Thyagaraja Swamy Aradhana Utsavalu at Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada. Sambaiah Shastri went to Tiruvaiyur in Tanjavur and attended the Thyagaraja Swamy Aradhana Utsavalu in 1951.

Since then, he has been organising Thyagaraja Swamy Aradhana Utsavalu in Vemulawada town. Taking inspiration from Chavutu Sambaiah Shastri, the Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple authorities have been conducting the Thyagaraja Swamy Aradhana Utsavalu for the last 64 years from 1961. Classical singer late Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna and playback singers Ghantasala, Sush-eela and Kuchipudi dance master Vedantham Satyana-rayana, Radheshyam and actors Jamuna and playback singer Janaki have participated in the musical concerts organised on the occasion of Aradhana Utsavalu at Vemulawada and given performances in the past.

The performances given by the renowned musical and dance artistes made the city a cultural hub. Ramaiah Sharma, Asthana Vidwansudu of Vemulawada temple said the temple authorities took inspiration from Chavutu Sambaiah Shastri who organised Aradhana Utsavalu in the early years added that it was a good opportunity to the budding artistes to watch live programmes or performances by the renowned artistes at Rajarajeshwara Swamy Temple.

Dusa Rajeshwar, Chief Executive officer, Rajara-jeshwara Swamy temple said they have made elaborate arrangements for the devotees and artistes and prominent personalities who visit the temple during the Utsavalu with Rs 10 lakh.

He said renowned artists would give vocal and instrumental performances.
Solo, Harikatha, dance drama and literary programmes will be held during the five-day Thyagaraja Swamy Aradhanostavalu at Rajarajwara Swamy temple at Vemulawada.
