APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University to offer course in entrepreneurship
Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam University has introduced a specialisation course, 'Minor in Entrepreneurship,' for students interested in entrepreneurial activities. This will give them an additional 12 credits through three or four courses offered by five government- approved and university-empanelled Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in the state. The students in semester 4 can opt for the course, and on successful completion, the university will give them a 'Certificate for the Minor' together with the B.Tech degree, sources said.
The students can use their free time, holidays or vacations to complete the programme in five semesters. They can also take one year off for this during the B.Tech programmes. However, the Minor will be awarded only when the B.Tech programme is completed successfully, sources said. The five government- approved Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) are Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology Bio-medical and Medical Devices Incubation (SCTIMST-TIMed), College of Engineering Trivandrum Technology Business Incubator, (CET TBI), Technolodge Kannur, Amal Jyothi Technology Business Incubator TBI, and Startup Village, Kochi.
The project-based courses have theoretical inputs in the areas of ideation, product design and development, prototyping, marketing and finance. The TBIs will formulate and offer these courses depending on their product speciality. A student, who has passed in all courses till the third semester, can apply for the Minor and choose any TBI according to one's interest. The TBIs will provide the details of the courses in their brochure and webpage.
