Kozhikode Medical College journal goes online
KOZHIKODE: Government Medical College, Kozhikode, has launched the online version of its annual journal Clinical Proceedings with a view to have a wider reach for the research and major procedures held in the institution. “The surgery performed on a 24-year-old male who attempted suicide by consuming tuber extracts of Gloriosa superba, a climber plant commonly found in Wayanad, is considered one of the major ones handled by the doctors here,” said Dr Soopy Kayanaduth, assistant professor (general medicine).
“This was one of the rarest surgeries we handled and hence the doctors and the students wanted its details to be available to anyone interested.” The annual journal, which has been published every year since its inception in 2004, has become a quarterly with the online version. The department of medicine initiated the process so that the journal shall become a referral material for doctors or students in medicine. There will be articles, research papers and case studies in the journal.
“The online journal will contain original research works, review of medical articles, reports on clinical works and latest treatment updates in the field of medicine,” said Dr Kayanaduth. “This will be especially useful for doctors in Kerala.” Journal offers open access and is indexed in Google scholar. Editorial board includes eminent national and international faculty, he said. Prof. K.A. Salim, former professor of heamatology at King Khalid University Saudi Arabia, launched the online journal last week. Principal Dr P.V. Sasidaran, head of the department of medicine Dr N. K. Thulaseedaran, professor of cardiology Dr Jonson Francis, apart from Dr Kayanaduth are a few of the faculty behind the initiative. It can be accessed at http://clinicalproceedings.org/.
