Clashes break out within TD groups during Yuvagalam padayatra

KURNOOL: Tension prevailed at Kothapalli village in Nandyal mandal on Tuesday after clashes broke out between two groups of Telugu Desam Party workers ahead of the Yuvagalam Padayatra by party general secretary Nara Lokesh arriving at the place.

Tuesday happened to be the 101st day of the yatra. Lokesh was scheduled to enter the Nandyal assembly segment in Kothapalli village, where former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and former AP Minor Irrigation Corporation chairman A.V. Subba Reddy had separately organised welcome ceremonies.

Before Lokesh could arrive, followers of both Akhila and Subba Reddy entered into a verbal quarrel. It soon led to clashes between them, when some of Akhila Priya’s supporters went on to physically attack Subba Reddy.

This only intensified the clashes, which lasted for at least half an hour. Police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Some supporters of both leaders suffered minor injuries and were treated at a nearby hospital.
