KAKINADA: In a tragic incident, a nine-year-old boy of Gollapalem village in Kajuluru mandal in Kakinada district died as he playfully put his head into a ring-like rope hanging at an Anganwadi centre there on Tuesday.

According to Gollapalem police, the Anganwadi helper opened the centre as usual in the morning. She bolted the rooms and went to the houses of pregnant and lactating women to call them to the centre to distribute nutritious food to them.

A while later, three boys entered a room of the Anganwadi centre and started playing with the ring-like rope that lay attached to a clamp of the ceiling.
The rope was being used by the centre to weigh the commodities. While the boys were swinging by the rope, the head of Manoj got struck to the rope and he got tied to it tight. He suffocated and had an instant death.

When the Anganwadi helper returned and opened the door, the boy was found tied to the rope and motionless. She raised a hue and cry. Locals came in, unhooked the boy and took him to a hospital where the doctor confirmed his death.

The boy was not a student of the Anganwadi Centre. Gollapalem police registered a case and are investigating the incident.
