Union housing minister lauds AP's 30 lakh houses for poor plan
Vijayawada: Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushal Kishore has lauded the Andhra Pradesh government’ move to allot house sites to 30 lakh families from poor backgrounds.
The minister reviewed the progress of construction of the houses in the state at a meeting he held with senior district officials via video conference on Tuesday. The state government is availing central government funds under the PM’s ‘housing for the poor’ scheme.
The minister laid stress on completion of the construction of these houses in an expeditious manner. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted all the poor to get a pucca house by 2024 under the Centre’s housing mission.
He called upon the AP government to fulfill PM Modi’s commitment and laid stress on developing the basic infrastructure at these newly emerging housing colonies. He said the Centre was according top priority to AP in allocation of funds for the houses.
AP’s housing minister Jogi Ramesh said the state government had allotted house sites to 30 lakh people free of cost to construct houses under ‘Pedalanadariki Illu’ programme. The construction works were going on at a brisk pace, he said.
Housing special chief secretary Ajay Jain explained about the steps taken by the state government for construction of these houses in the state. He said the state government was providing sand to the beneficiaries free of cost while cement, iron and other construction material were being provided to them at low cost.
The Union minister also visited a housing layout at Gajulapalli of Ibrahimpatnam, where 250 out of the 1,402 sanctioned houses were completed.
