Road connectivity badly hit in 50 villages following rains in TS' Dahegaon mandal

KAGAZNAGAR (ADILABAD): The road connectivity and transportation remain affected in nearly 50 villages in Dahegaon mandal due to the sinking of the bridge on Peddavagu river in Kagaznagar mandal in September, 2022. The re-construction works remain stalled.

The situation aggravated in the present rainy season after a temporary road was washed away in the recent floods in the Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.

The lack of road connectivity is seriously affecting the studies of large numbers of children staying in hostels in Kagaznagar region. Officials set up barricades at both ends of the partially sunk bridge. The collapse of the bridge affected the transportation to around 50 villages in Dahegaon.

Four students had narrowly escaped drowning in the Peddavagu while crossing the river in country boats made of Thermocol sheets to reach the other side some time ago. Recently, a person drowned in the river waters while crossing the river following heavy rains.

The state government has called tenders for re- construction of the bridge but the works remain stopped due to the rains.

People of Bheemini used to take the Dahegaon route to reach the Kagaznagar mandal headquarters, but not anymore.

Kiran Kumar of Kagaznagar said the people of Kagaznagar and Dahegaon have been suffering due to the lack of proper road connectivity to villages in Dahegaon.

There are strong allegations that the few pillars of the existing high level bridge were sunk due to heavy sand mining around the pillars and that resulted in the sinking of a major portion of the bridge.

BSP state president Praveen Kumar, who visited the collapsed bridge, criticised the state government for its failure to restore the road connectivity.
