Sircilla weavers must create their own brand image: Handlooms director

Karimnagar: The TS government, under an initiative from IT minister K.T. Rama Rao, is giving bulk orders for Bathukamma sarees and for school uniforms, giving a much-needed boost to the morale of the weavers in Sircilla.

By obtaining bulk orders from private companies, the weavers should sustain themselves even if there are no orders from the government in the coming two years. They must be excelling in yarn, fabric and apparel divisions, advised the handlooms and textiles director, Alagu Varshini.

She inspected the power looms at Nehru Nagar and Venkat Rao Nagar at the textile town Sircilla in the Rajanna Sircilla district on Wednesday.

Varshini promised the weavers that the government would extend support to them by organising field visits for them to Rajupalem, Tiruvoor, Erode areas to learn about the latest technologies in the fabric industry. “So, you can create your own brand and ably face the growing competition in future.”

“There is an acute shortage of petticoats in the Hyderabad market. If the weavers of Sircilla start producing more petticoats, the government would market them by first purchasing them. The government would also clear the pending dues of the power looms weavers of Sircilla,” she said.

District collector Anurag Jayanthi, chairman of the textile development corporation Guduru Praveen, municipal chairperson Gindam Kala, vice-chairman Srinivas, additional collector Sathya Prasad, Ashok and Sagar were present.
