Telugu students among 21 students deported from US in a single day
HYDERABAD: Twenty one Indian students were deported to the country from the United States of America in a single day. According to reports, some of them from the Telugu states claimed they had completed all visa formalities and had landed in the US to reach their colleges for higher studies.
They were sent back after immigration officers checked their documents and detained them for a brief while. Most of them had landed in the Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco airports.
The students said that they were not given adequate information about why they were sent back and assumed that it had something to do with their visa documentation. Some students said that their phones and even WhatsApp chats were checked.
Others said that they were asked to leave calmly and warned of serious legal action if they raised objections. Some said that the common universities which they were headed to include those in Missouri and South Dakota states.
Distressed students were worried about the huge loss of time, money, and future and the consequences of being deported, given the USA's stringent rules of a five-year ban if they are summarily removed or deported upon a finding that they are inadmissible.
