AP government to spend ₹16 crore on treating girl child

Kakinada: The state government has okayed ₹16 crore for treating 26-month-old girl Diana Shanthi of Nidadavole in East Godavari district. She will be given gene-therapy, including administration of injections, for treating her spinal muscular atrophy Dubowitz disease.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy promised the girl’s parents to sanction the amount when he attended the Kapu Nestam programme at Nidadavole on Saturday.

The girl will also be given a pension of ₹5,000 per month from January 2024.

East Godavari district collector K. Madhavi Latha said Diana Shanthi will be administered the necessary injections within three weeks. She said the girl’s mother Surya Kumari has been given a job.
