Petrol, diesel to cost more in Andhra Pradesh

The Central government allots Rs 200 crore per year to the state government under central road cess.

Hyderabad: To strengthen the AP Road Development Corporation (RDC), the state government has decided to collect Rs 1 per litre petrol and diesel as road fund.

With this, it expects to collect approximately Rs 600 crore per year. The state government wants to provide Rs 900 crore as dedicated fund to the RDC to improve road network in the state.

The Central government allots Rs 200 crore per year to the state government under central road cess. From now onwards, these funds will be allotted to the RDC. The state government will get another Rs 100 crore from the Nat-ional Highway Authority for laying national highways within the state. These funds will also be given to the RDC.

Road network survey: Meanwhile, the state government has assigned a private consultancy to survey the condition of roads in all 13 districts of the state.
The consultancy will recommend where the roads are to be widened and where new roads have to be laid, among other things. On the basis of this report, the state government will take up road widening and laying of new roads.
