Thiruvananthapuram: Correct your plastic errors today
Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Corporation with Recyclebin, a group of architects, is making a museum using plastic bottles and pens. The ‘Museum of Habitual Errors’ will be the venue for an exhibition of alternatives to plastic, to be conducted in conjunction with the Corporation’s plastic carry bag ban from March 1. The plastic for the museum will be collected through a drive on Friday and Saturday - one similar to the Corporation’s collection drives.
“We see waste as a material, a discard. But it is in fact a phenomenon of our collective consciousness. The backyard is not inside, but outside us,” says Ganga Dileep C, cofounder of Recyclebin. Manufacturers of paper and cloth carry bags as well as ‘pala’ (arecanut sheath) products have been invited to take part in the exhibition. It will be conducted from February 20 to March 1 at Sri Chithira Thirunal Park.
Through the drive they hope to collect 70,000-80,000 pet bottles. “The citizens will make the museum too. We are expecting the participation of volunteers from colleges and other institutions. This is an experiment. Though we have a concept image in mind, how it will all shape up, will depend on how people respond over the next two days,” says Ganga.
