Salem: Villagers seek removal of floating dead fish
Salem: Thousands of fishes were seen floating dead in a lake near Salem due to the scorching summer heat.
The lake, spread over in an area of 350 acres, is located near Neikarapatty in Kondalampatty in Salem district.
Besides the soaring heat, the villagers believe that industries located at Kondalampatty also let effluents into the lake causing fishes to die.
People in areas such as Chinneri, Poolampatty, Keeranur and Periyur depend on this lake for farming activities.
The villagers also earn their livelihood by netting fish from the lake. The villagers alleged that despite making complaints several times, the local panchayat officials have failed to take any action.
